Samantha Bruha
I have found through my exploration of multiple medias that my most successful and meaningful pieces have been done in oil and charcoal. Last year, I experimented with a wide range of materials such as colored pencil, acrylic paint, oil paint, pen etc. Small lines, details, and their impact on the human face and form intrigue me. Not only do people and facial expressions fascinate me but I also enjoy capturing the essence of a person through the objects they are passionate about. I want the viewer to see the beauty of the people as well as the small components that make them up; to me they hold the same importance.
My exploration of the human structure through portraits holds the most emotion among my pieces. I seek to capture people and their passions by paying attention to the small details that make them special. I hope to express the detail in small portions of people that are often overlooked but still important.
My primary goal is to communicate passions and emotions through small details and intense light source. Throughout my exploration I have found that charcoal and oil paint allow me to accomplish this goal fully. I utilize sharp lines and intense contrast so that I can best accentuate dramatic details within the whole subject.
Through my exploration of human passions I have grown to appreciate detail and the beauty in every day objects. I have learned to appreciate peoples interests and the unique qualities of the things that are special to them.
