Julia Benson

Over the past few years, I have worked with many different media. I have found that I enjoy working with anatomy and facial expressions because I like the complexity and details allowing me to show an array of emotions. My work conveys an overall happy theme by using a variety of colors and facial expressions of joy.
I prefer to experiment with a range of media. I have found that I am best at graphite and colored pencil. Using graphite helps me to be able to get the small details in each of my complex compositions. I strive to be as realistic as possible in my compositions, I want the viewer to think that my work is a photograph even though it is a drawing. I try to show emotion through my work with anatomy and body language.
I am intrigued by facial expressions and how they are able to show so much emotion. I have found that people can relate to images of other people because we are all human and we see facial expressions and body language on a daily basis. I am inspired by love and happiness in my work by using people as the subject.
My work is meant to make the viewer happy. In my senior year I am exploring detail and anatomy. I focus on how slight changes with facial expressions can show a lot of emotion. In the future I would like to work more with portraits and color.
