Lila Rose

Q: What inspires you?

A: My life experiences definitely help to inspire my art. It definitely hasn’t been easy, and neither are my drawings. I also love metaphors and perspective, which I try to include to give everyone a more personal meaning to my artwork.

Q: What made you start drawing?

A: I started drawing at a young age because I was never great at staying still and found myself most content with a pencil in hand and a crisp piece of paper.

Q: How has your past shaped your drawing?

A: My past has had rough edges and has shaped the person I am today. Art is a big part of our generation and we are all struggling to make our name in the world. Anyone can put a pen to a page, but it takes your heart to make it special to everyone.

Q: What medium do you enjoy?

A: I work the best with pencils. They seem to work with my ‘style’ and I love the many different effects from a single pencil.

Q: What is your favorite color scheme to use?

A: Colors aren’t my strength, as I’m partially colorblind! It doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy using schemes though. My personal favorite is probably a black and white theme, that uses dramatic flares in values.

Q: How did you foster your drawing skills?

A: I’ve been doodling on everything from napkins to MCAS for years on end. I’ve never had an official art class up until this year, but I’ve learned a lot from watching talented people and making their style my own.

Q: If you could meet any artist who would you meet?

A: If I could meet any artist, I would meet anyone willing to give me the time of day to show me what they know. Art can be made with and by everything and everyone and I’ve only been exposed to the tip of the iceberg.
