My primary goal is to tell a visual story with my art and to depict a certain character within that story. I seek to expose emotions in my work because I found that it makes art more interesting. The emotion adds to the character that I create in my compositions. The personalities I create in my compositions are really classy and have a girly style. In a way, some of the people I depict are semi-reflections of myself. I often incorporate fashion of some kind in my artwork.
Last year I experimented with different media so I would know how to use them and to figure out what I liked the most. My compositional and subject choices varied last year. This year I have found more of a cohesive voice. Through my exploration of different types of media, I figured out that I enjoy painting with watercolors, but it took me until my senior year to realize it. I prefer watercolors because they are easy to blend and you can determine the intensity of a certain color depending on how much water you mix with it. Now that I know I favor watercolors, I plan on using them in most of my future compositions.
There is not really a specific meaning behind my work, I prefer it to be interpretive so anyone can think anything they want about it. Due to the interpretive quality of my artwork, my views about it often change as I progress through a project. I strive to make the viewer question what is happening in the composition. I want the viewer to feel the emotion I portray in my composition, and for them to make a personal connection with it.
Each composition tells a different story so there is no universal meaning to all my pieces: the common theme is that most have a girl doing some sort of action. My future subjects will probably convey this same theme. I am intrigued by cool details and textures of everyday objects. I seek to explore the properties of watercolors more.
